Events across East Devon have been cancelled, postponed or moved due to the severe weather set to batter the area today and tomorrow.

Sidmouth Folk Festival has had to cancel two events and relocate four other planned events.

Honiton Gate to Plate, planned for Saturday, August 10, has been postponed and Exmouth Museum's Market on The Strand event, also planned for Saturday, has now been cancelled.

Further afield Boardmasters in Newquay has been cancelled due to the poor weather and the organisers of Bristol's Balloon Fiesta have cancelled all flights today.

The much anticipated second serving of Honiton Gate to Plate has been postponed due to a severe weather warning in place for today and Saturday.

In a statement, East Devon District Council, wrote: "After taking advice from the Met Office and the emergency services, we have decided, with heavy hearts, to postpone the Honiton Gate to Plate event this coming Saturday 10 August.

"The event was due to be held along the High Street in the town with around 50 food, drink and craft producers setting up gazebos and tents to cover their stalls from early Saturday morning.

"However, the forecast for Friday night and Saturday morning suggests that there will be wind gusts of up to 45mph to 50mph with a mean wind speed of between 20mph to 25mph. The wind gusts are expected to continue throughout Saturday and ease away later in the afternoon.

"Our primary concern is the safety of the public and our producers."

Honiton Gate To Plate will now take place on Saturday, September 28.

Due to the heavy rain and high winds forecast for today Sidmouth Folk Festival has decided to move a number of events to different venues.

The venue changes come after the festival announced yesterday that it had cancelled this evening's torchlight procession and fireworks display.

A spokesperson for Sidmouth Folk Festival said: "Due to the forecast weather conditions, the whole Ham area will be closed on Friday.

"Advance tickets for these scheduled Ham concerts remain valid for the Bulverton. Seating will be provided at The Bulverton.

"A free bus service to The Bulverton will be provided from 2.30pm and Bulverton parking will be free-of-charge."

The following events have been relocated in the interests of public safety.

Grand Workshop Showcase moved to the Manor Pavilion. 12.30 – 2.15pm.

Concert with The Shee and Amythyst Kiah moved to The Bulverton. 3.45 – 5.45pm.

Final Concert with Belshazzar's Feast and Granny's Attic moved to The Bulverton. 8 – 10.30pm.

West Gallery Music Workshop moved to the Methodist Church at 11.30am.

Exmouth Museum's Market in The Strand event has now been cancelled due to the poor weather forecast to hit coastal areas like Exmouth.

The event was set to be Exmouth Museum's main fundraising event of the summer. The museum was hoping to fill the town centre with independent traders selling everything from arts and crafts to plants and baked goods.

A spokesperson for Exmouth Museum said: "This is now cancelled due to the weather warning from the Met Office. We had hoped it would be alright and waited until it was inevitable. So disappointing for all our wonderful stallholders."
