In the interests of transparency East Devon District Council has outlined to Honiton residents how it decides on which areas will receive bin collections during the coronavirus outbreak.

Fluctuating staffing levels at EDDC have meant that the council has had to prioritise certain bin collections over others.

It has prioritised food waste, rubbish and dog waste collections to protect public health.

EDDC has also suspended all Green waste collections, until further notice.

A spokesperson for EDDC said: "Our operations team will decide how many collections we can make on a daily basis depending on how many staff we have available to work.

"We will give priority to food waste, refuse and dog bin collections for public hygiene reasons. We will only suspend these collections as a last resort

"Our second priority will be to make as many dry recycling (green sack and green recycling box) and clinical waste collections as we can each day depending upon staffing levels.

"We will make as many bulky household items and green waste collections and make as many new container deliveries as staffing allows, however, these will be given a lower priority."

The council has also asked dog walkers to take home dog waste at the moment as 'exceptionally heavy use' has resulted in some dog waste bins 'overflowing'.
