It marked the end of the anticipation today (August 15), as sixth form students at Honiton Community College were given their A-level results.

In a statement released by the school, Senior Vice Principal, Sue Manning said: "We are absolutely delighted to inform our community that the sixth form students' results have had another good year.

"Building on their GCSE results they have produced excellent value added (progress) at post-16 due to hard work, commitment, resilience and support of the Sixth Form team.

"This is a year when, as fully reported in the press, A-level examinations have not been without issues.

"We would like to thank governors and parents for their continued support in all we do with Year 12 and 13 students.

"On an individual basis a high proportion of our students have achieved outstanding results either in terms of the raw grades or in terms of the progress they have made in their journey through Sixth Form.

"Success for Jake Matthews who achieved Maths A* , Physics A*, Chemistry A, EPQ A* who will be reading Mathematics at Exeter University; Bailey Bachmann who achieved Geography A, Business Distinction *, Accounting B who will be travelling to Sussex University to read Business Management and Chloe Keitch who successfully gained 4 A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and EPQ and will be starting as an undergraduate at Exeter University reading Medical Science.

"Two of our students have also been awarded scholarships from Russell Group universities as they achieved the highest grades in all three subjects.

"The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) continues to be a strength – this is a strong indicator of a student's ability to work independently on a research topic of their choice and is becoming increasingly valued by many top universities.

"Students not choosing Higher Education at present as their route have successfully secured a range of employment including several who have already started their higher level apprenticeships in national and local businesses."

Selena Burroughs, Director of Sixth Form, stated: "The results achieved both in A-levels and the Applied BTEC's are a true testimony to the effort, dedication and focus that the students have given to their studies over the last two years.

"We are immensely proud. We wish them every success for their future and thank all the students for being part of our amazing sixth form community.

"What is strikingly obvious about our Sixth Form is the atmosphere. A blend of hard work and dedication from students and staff combined with the fun, excitement and reward from participating in the many extra-curricular and work experience opportunities on offer.

"A key feature of the Sixth Form is giving back to the community. This is either directly into the school community by giving support to students in lower years or into the wider community through a wide range of fund-raising events.

"There are many advantages to a school sixth form, especially one that is not large and impersonal. We not only provide first rate teaching across the school, including post-16 subjects, but we also have an individualised support programme through personalised meetings with tutors.

"This means that as we know each student extremely well, we can help them navigate their way through their Post 16 Education.

"We are delighted that many of our Year 11 students will be continuing their education with us in September and look forward to welcoming them in this next part of their educational journey."

If any student still wishes to apply, please contact Selena Burroughs at the college to arrange an application meeting.
