POLICE UPDATE: The woman is safe and roads have been reopened.

Traffic is currently gridlocked in and around Honiton.

This is due to an ongoing incident on the bridge over the A30 near Heathpark Industrial Estate.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We were called to the A30 near Honiton at around 5.50am this morning following reports of a female in her 20s on the wrong side of the barrier of a bridge over the road.

"The road was closed in both directions at 6.30am.

"Highways England is on scene to help with the diversion of traffic.

"Drivers should expect delays."

The A30 is closed both ways and traffic is queueing from A35 Exeter Road (Honiton) to B3174 (Daisy Mount Cross, West Hill).

Congestion to Roads through the centre of Honiton, including the high street and the bypass.

Routes through Ottery St Mary are also affected as people divert around the closure.
