Honiton Elections: Cllr Jake Bonetta is excited to see the outcome of Thursday's election
Honiton's Town Council's elections for St. Michael's Ward is taking place in less than a week, and Cllr Jake Bonetta told Nub News he is excited to see the outcome and get started on the council's programme of work, which include big plans for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Jake told Nub News: "It will be very interesting to see the outcome of that election!
"We have got a fresh beginning with new faces, including completely new faces, pretty much, coming through in March. We're going to really be able to start to work for the town once again."
There are four town councillor positions available and six people are standing: Lisa Beigan, Jenny Brown, Robert Fowles, Cathy Maunder, Andrew Pearsall and John Taylor.
Jake continued: "We have really tried to get our house in order. I think that aspect of community value has been lacking in recent years.
"I'm really, really genuinely excited to be able to work on the projects we set out in the budget and the work programme for the next year and to really deliver for Honiton.
"I think it's extremely important the Town Council is not only visible but transparent and open."
In addition to the elections, Jake spoke of Honiton's plans for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which he called a 'historic event.'
He said: "We are really planning to ramp up celebrations for the Queen's Jubilee.
"Jenny Lane, part of the Queen's Jubilee Working Group, is organising a run in partnership with the council, and we're really happy to be supporting them with that.
"We'll have live music and a disco on the High Street. We also plan to have a large Jubilee Lunch on the Sunday as well as other various sports tournaments and memorabilia merchandise.
"There's a lot of plans that will involve as many groups as we possibly can and we are in the process of trying to find between £15,000 and £20,000 in funding."
The Town Council are applying for grants but they are also looking for sponsorship from local businesses.
The election will be held on Thursday March 10 between 7am and 10pm.
The polling stations are Honiton Library on New Street and The Heathfield Inn on Walnut Road.
There will be no election for St. Paul's Ward because there were only three applications for four available positions. Applications were received from Joseph Furneaux-Gotch, Debra Hulin and Caroline Kolek who have now been elected.
