A new initiative supporting local businesses is being set up in Honiton, with Fiver Fest coming to town in October.

Totally Locally is a worldwide organisation operating in countries all over the globe, with the aim of boosting local economies through independent traders and community-focussed spending.

Totally Locally Honiton has come about thanks to the collaborative effort of Fiona Hanratty of the Lacemakers Café, local Labour Party representative, Liz Pole, Kate Dixon who runs a photography shop on the High Street, Helen Newman who owns Honiton Sports and Bev Stamp, among others who are urging local independent businesses to sign up for Fiver Fest.

The event will take place from October 10 - 24 and Honiton Nub News will be in town for the launch, bringing you live coverage of what deals are on offer and speaking to businesses involved.

We spoke to organiser Fiona Hanratty, who told us: "This will be the first Fiver Fest in Honiton, and is a great opportunity for local businesses, on the High Street or in Heathpark Industrial Estate, along with Market Traders to sign up and boost their business.

"The idea is to advertise your deal and encourage people into town spending their money and getting a good deal at the same time.

"The premise behind Totally Locally is that if every adult spent just £5 a week on local independently produced goods and services, it would mean over a million being ploughed back into the local economy. This in turn supports jobs, local sports teams, education, welfare and so on.

"It's about making a small change in everyone's spending habits to make a big positive difference to communities."

Businesses who would like to be involved can sign up by emailing [email protected].
