Honiton: Local woman organises Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebratory run for all the family
Jenny Lane is the owner of Alan Rowe Barbering in Honiton, and she is organising a family friendly running event in honour of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which it is set to be a historic event! It is hoped the whole town will come out to cheer the runners on, and everyone who finishes will be given a Jubilee Medal.
Jenny has lived in Honiton for twenty years, and she lives with her husband Adrian and their two daughters. Two years ago, Jenny bought Alan Rowe Barbering from her parents, Alan and Pauline Rowe, when they retired after having run the barbers for many years.
On February 6, Queen Elizabeth II became the first monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, which marks seventy years of service to the United Kingdom and its realms.
To celebrate, the government have announced a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June. Communities up and down the country, including Honiton, will be hosting special events, street parties and celebrations.
The Queen's Jubilee Run will form a big part of Honiton's festivities and it will take place on Saturday 4 June at 10am.
Jenny is part of a working group who are organising the run. She told Nub News: "I was delighted to be able to join a group of likeminded, town driven people, who are eager to give Honiton an amazing Bank Holiday of celebrations for the Queens Platinum Jubilee.
"I love running, and luckily we're spoilt for choice when it comes to places to run in and around the town. We also benefit from having a fantastic running club, who've been amazing in their help and support of this event. Along with so many other local businesses.
"Running is an activity which brings people of all ages and abilities together. It's great for both your physical and mental health and a brilliant way to celebrate the Jubilee."
On the day, the start and the finish of the race will be in Honiton town centre to bring as many people together as possible.
There are three routes for people to choose from: The Junior 1 Mile, The Jubilee 5K and The Platinum 7 Miler.
Jenny added: "[There is] literally something for everyone, from the aspiring Jo Pavey, the regular Park Runner or the absolute beginner!
"This will truly be an historic run to remember. Places are limited so don't leave it too late to take part! It'll be worth it for the medal! I mean, who doesn't love some race bling?!"
