The UK's third named storm in a week, Storm Franklin, is affecting train services this morning, and it comes after three days of disruption caused by Strom Eunice, which happened on Friday.

Storm Franklin is expected to lead to a high level of incidents across the network and passengers are being urged to reschedule their journeys for another day.

A 50mph speed limit has been imposed across the network which will cause delays and cancellations.

On Friday, the region experienced winds of 90mph which caused all trains to be cancelled. Network Rail cleared more than 50 fallen trees from the South Western Railway region.

Further wind and rain on Sunday evening has caused even more trees to fall and block the lines, as well as leading to more damage to stations and other infrastructure. As a consequence of this, as well as the volume of displaced customers, the company is unable to guarantee replacement travel services will be provided.

Mark Killick, Route Director for Network Rail said: "Storm Franklin is set to cause further disruption on our route so we're asking our customers not to travel on Monday.

"With strong winds approaching from a different direction, it's likely that trees weakened by Storm Eunice will be forced down and could block lines.

"The safety of our customers and our staff, who have worked around the clock since Friday to remove debris and repair damaged infrastructure, is our number one priority.

"I'd like to thank our customers for their patience over the last three days."

Passengers are urged to check their journey here.

Tickets booked for travel on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday will be accepted on Tuesday.
