A chiropractic clinic based on Honiton High Street has undergone rebranding as a new practitioner takes the helm.

Chiropractic Care Honiton, which has been running in the town for 22 years, is now Honiton Chiropractic Clinic – with the premises also revamped to reflect the change of hand.

Richard Stenning is handing over the reins to 27-year-old Austin Wells-Burr – a former client of his – while continuing to work on a semi-retirement basis from his Axminster practice.

Richard said: “I’ve been practising in Honiton since 1994 and been in this building since 1998.

“I first opened a practice in Axminster in 1992, which is still running. Throughout my career I’ve worked out that I’ve seen over 10,000 patients.”

Austin was inspired to become a chiropractor after receiving treatment from Richard.

“It was 12 years ago I came to see Richard, because I was broken from rugby, and not only did he fix me but it’s also what made me decide that chiropractic care was the career path for me – so that, hopefully, I could do the same for other people,” Austin explained.

Austin was a 15-year-old student at Colyton Grammar School when he was injured playing rugby for Bridport. After a couple of chiropractic sessions with Richard, he was back to playing rugby again.

The experience set the wheel in motion for Austin to go on to study chiropractic in south Wales for four years, after which he moved to Exeter practising there for five years before establishing his own practice – or taking over one – here in Honiton.

“It’s nice because I grew up locally and have played rugby in Honiton many times, as well as attending the local gyms.

“It feels good to come back here and continue my work locally.”

The building, located at the bottom of the High Street just below the police station, houses a variety of therapists and health practitioners – such as counsellors and acupuncturists.

“When everything reopens we’re looking to have a full-house here, as a bit of a wellbeing ‘hub’ in the town,” Austin added.
