The Beehive in Honiton has raised a flag in honour of it being LGBT History Month.

According to Cllr Duncan Seridan-Shaw: "The purpose of the awareness month is to raise the profile of hundreds of thousands of people in the UK who are still suffering the oppression and ignorance of a culture that refuses to accept change and diversity.

"LGBT month is not always about marches, parades and festivals; it is not always about parties, cat walks and drag queens but is always about changing the world one person and one community at a time."

Commenting on the raising of the rainbow coloured flag, which represents the LGBTQ+ community, he said: "I am abundantly proud, I really am!

"This is such an important step for Honiton.

"It shows such emotional support to the LGBTQ+ community of our town.

"It says, we recognise all members of the town, that we appreciate all contributions to our community and it shows that we care and want to share a new attitude of diversity and inclusivity.

"I'd just like to say thank you to my fellow councillors who supported this action and I'd just like to say I'm always available to talk and support our community and I actively seek ways of increasing awareness in our town."
