Budget supermarket Aldi has submitted plans to increase the number of parking spaces at its Honiton store.

The plans, submitted to East Devon District Council (EDDC), could see the number of car parking spaces increased from 73 to 104.

Aldi has also asked planners to allow the creation of two new electric vehicle charging points.

According to documents submitted to EDDC by Aldi: "It is proposed to enlarge the southern corner of the store, creating an extension of approximately 225sqm.

"The store warehouse will be relocated to this extension, leaving the majority of the existing building free for an expanded retail area. The welfare and warehouse areas will be relocated in a different configuration.

"The additional land to the south-west will be used to provide additional parking, with landscaped and banked buffer zones to the boundaries.

"The proposed extension is designed to match the existing character and will therefore consist of the same form and materials as the current Aldi store.

"The new car park will also provide two electric vehicle charging bays. The existing car park layout will be reconfigured to create four clearly marked disabled parking bays near the food store entrance, along with eight 'parent and child' bays."

This will be an improvement on the store's current layout, consisting of four disabled parking bays and six 'parent and child' bays.
