A community book sale at the Tesco store in Honiton has yet again raised enough funds to give back to a local good cause.

Honiton Makaton Sing and Sign Choir were invited up to the store on Battishorne Way to be presented with a cheque for £300 to fund a trip to Bristol Zoo.

Tesco Community Manager, Duncan Sheridan-Shaw said: "We are once again proud and privileged to be asked to support both the Makaton Choir and our good friends at TRIP.

"The day-trip to the zoo will give so much more than just a day out, it will support with much-needed social interaction, respite and mental wellbeing.

"We are so proud to be part of a great community of givers, carers and those who decide they must "Do" rather than sit by and watch.

"As always, I am open to requests for support from the store and anyone wishing for help need only ask for me at the shop."

Sharon Parnell and her daughter Naomi who run the Makaton Choir in Honiton were 'absolutely thrilled' to receive the donation, which will bring lots of smiling faces to everyone involved.

She told Nub News: "We are so excited to be able to enjoy a day out together.

"These children and young adults very rarely get the chance to spend the day with their friends due to their locations and complexity of their needs.

"The parents and enablers are looking forward to be able to spend the day together, which we take for granted in our everyday life.

"Just to be able to sit next to your friend on a bus is exciting. We will enjoy our day looking and listening to the animals and feeding some of them.

"We will have an amazing picnic lunch together with fun and laughter and, no doubt, lots of smiling faces.

"We have some wheelchair users which is why we choose Noah's Ark because they have the most amazing disabled toilets with hoists. This is the difference to whether some children can even go out for the day.

"Noah's Ark have thought carefully about the needs of disabled people and have met the basic needs for all.

"Trip, Tesco, Noah's Ark and Parnell's Coaches, who are also lending us a bus for the journey, have all came together to give us all something to remember; a day together.

"We cannot thank everyone enough."
