A ferret who escaped from his cage in the Kings Road area of Honiton earlier this week has now been safely reunited with his owner.

Oblivious to lockdown, 'Big Dave' took off last Saturday after windy weather opened up a crack in his outdoor home during the night - big enough for him to slip through.

After spending a couple of nights roaming around the neighbourhood, he was eventually accepted by The Vale Veterinary Centre in Cullompton, before being picked up by his owner Marc Pepperrell.

"It was a bit of shock to discover he had gone," Marc told Honiton Nub News.

"I put a post onto a community social media group and then someone linked your story in the comments and I could instantly see that it was him.

"He stank when I got him; so he was straight in the bath and then he just curled up and went to sleep - clearly tired from his adventures!

"He's quite mischievous around the house, stealing socks and things, but he has the sweetest nature.

"I hand-reared him myself, he's only two years old."

Marc wished to thank everyone who helped get Big Dave back home safely.

"Thank you to the people who fed and watered him and gave him cuddles, I'm so glad to have him back and it might not have happened otherwise."
