BREAKING: The A35 is currently closed in both directions due to a fire

UPDATE: 13:50 The road remains closed, but the fire has been extinguished. Recovery and an inspection of the road is now underway.

The A35 in Wilmington, Devon is currently closed in both directions due to a car and caravan fire.

Devon Fire Rescue Service are at the scene and are trying to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby fields and hedges, which are very dry.

Two people and a dog have been rescued from the vehicles.

The A35 is one of the main roads into Devon. There is traffic queueing in both directions.

The Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team said in a Tweet: "The A35 at Wilmington, Devon is currently closed in both directions due to a caravan and car fire.

"DFRS are making it safe and preventing the tinder dry fields and hedges from going up. Two people and a dog safe, luckily. 4300."
