Honiton Nub News is pleased to announce the launch of free obituaries listings today (Friday 13) as part of our continued commitment to building strong ties with the local community.
As a media organisation sitting right at the heart of the town, we have partnered with Honiton's family-owned and run Layzell Funeral Services to offer the new service to their clients.
Obituaries can be any length, include up to 10 images and will be published completely free of charge on the Honiton Nub News website.
Family and friends can view and share the entries, which will remain on the obituaries section.
There is also the option to include a link to a crowdfunding page or charity if the family is requesting donations in memory of their loved one.
Nub News CEO Karl Hancock said: "Honiton Nub News is bringing obituaries back to life. They used to be some of the most well-read pages in local newspapers. We want to bring that back.
"We are giving Honiton residents a platform to celebrate the life of a loved one free of charge and this demonstrates our ongoing commitment to serving the community.
"We are delighted to partner with Layzell Funeral Service to offer this valuable service.
"Like Honiton Nub News, the company is very much a fixture of the local community and shares the same values.
"We believe obituaries are an essential part of the local news scene"
Layzell Funeral Services' proprietors Paul and Greg Layzell opened their Dowell Street office in Honiton in 2014, although the company has a long history dating back to 1928.
The brothers are the third generation of the Layzell family to run the company established by their grandfather.
Paul said: "There have been many changes over the years since the company was established in 1928; however one thing that has not changed is the personal care we offer to bereaved families.
"We really believe in the saying 'Let our family serve your family'.
"We provide a personal 24-hour service, offering support, guidance and advice to help families through this most difficult and upsetting time to arrange a personal celebration of the life of a loved one.
"All the arrangements are overseen by myself or Greg to ensure continuity and peace of mind.
"We are delighted to partner with Honiton Nub News to offer this free obituaries service to our clients on a trusted and community-centric website."
