The deadline to submit comments on the East Devon Plan is fast approaching.

The East Devon Plan is a long term plan proposed by East Devon District Council (EDDC). The draft has been submitted and is currently out for consultation. The deadline for comments is January 15.

The document is a long term development plan for East Devon, and it will dictate housing development and provision of community facilities until 2040.

Part of the plan consists of a new town - consisting of 8,000 new homes - which will be built somewhere in East Devon. The options are between the A30 and the A3052, to the south of the A3052 or east of the A376 and Clyst St George village.

In addition there are plans to build in the fields between Honiton and Gittisham along the lane past the Combe Garden Centre.

This plan is controversial as Gittisham is a historic village and the vast majority is a designated conservation area. There are approximately 50 homes.

In December Cllr Jake Bonetta took part in a community meeting to discuss the proposals. He told Nub News: "Recent polling of local residents by a campaign group has shown massive opposition to the proposed plans."

Anyone who lives or spends time in East Devon is invited to submit comments, which can be done here.
