A local egg farm has adapted its service in the wake of the coronavirus crisis and is offering doorstep deliveries of day-fresh eggs to people living in the Honiton area.

Tony Fowler, who owns family-run Middle Knapp poultry farm producing free-range eggs, spoke to Honiton Nub News about how lockdown has changed his business model and people's habits.

"Overnight - on the evening that Boris Johnson shut the country down - I lost all my customers and the wholesale operation I usually run and had to establish a new customer base," he explained.

"Instead of the customers coming to me, I now go to them."

"I offer a home delivery service of eggs that have recently been laid, cutting out a lot of the usual food miles associated with supermarkets.

"People are really surprised by the freshness, as supermarket eggs can be a week old and travelled 500 miles before they're cooked.

"It's a case of educating people about ethical food production and the benefits of supporting local businesses."
