Five large planters in the recreational area at Honiton Community College have seen a revival - thanks to Combe Garden Centre, with the help of pupils and members of staff at the school.
The task was undertaken last week, after a student who works weekends at the garden centre asked for some compost to try and revamp the tired-looking beds.
Manager at Combe Garden Centre, James Trevett said: "Our attitude, as always, is why do anything half-hearted.
"So, instead of just providing a bit of soil we decided to do a mini 'Ground Force' - on the proviso that we had some helpers on hand to carry out the job.
"We went down there and were met by a team of two members of staff, along with five pupils - and they literally led the way.
"They ripped out all of the dead stuff that was in there, pulled out the tree stumps - we just gave a bit of guidance about what soil to use and the type of plants to plant.
"Two hours later we had five beds completely re-planted with a mixture of herbs and plants that are bee-friendly and good for wildlife.
"It was a fantastic effort from everyone involved and feels great to be able to help out the locals that support us."
