Residents and organisations in the Honiton area have been supporting the work of Hospiscare, raising a total of £2,372 for the charity.

Hospiscare is a Devon charity that provides end of life care for adults, both in hospices and at their homes. It supports more than 2,000 adults a year across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Sammy, who lives in Feniton, took part in a marathon last year and he also has been selling fudge at his school. He has managed to raise £154.65 for Hospiscare.

Sammy's grandmother Flo was cared for by Hospiscare, but she sadly passed away before he was born, and Sammy raises money in her memory.

The Original Factory Shop in Honiton chose Hospiscare as their charity of the year 2021. Throughout the year staff raised money by organising fundraising events, providing collection tins in store, encouraging customers to buy bags and swipe their loyalty cards.

The shop managed to raise £407.51 for the charity.

Honiton and District Lions Club also held fundraising efforts over the past year. They managed to raise £1,500 which was presented by their Chairman, Brian Richards to Hospiscare's Community Fundraiser, Toni Hiscocks.

Finally, Feniton Bowling Club made a donation of £310.

In December 2021, Hospiscare launched an SOS emergency appeal to raise funds. Covid-19 reduced its income enormously, and the charity isn't recovering quickly enough to keep pace with growing costs and a large deficit.

According to Hospiscare, if it cannot raise £1,00,000 by March 2022 it will have to make cuts to the care it can provide to the community.
