The Honiton 1st Scout Group have had a new roof installed after a fundraising effort.

After almost a year of fundraising, the 1st Honiton Scout Group and their leaders are thrilled with their new and improved roof.

Helen Turner is the Group Scout Leader and has been part of the fundraising initiative.

She told Nub News: "Our fundraising for the roof started last April when we were doing our St. George's Day Parade.

"A lovely lady came out and said could she give us some change to go into our group funds. I asked her if we could possibly start our roof fund off with it as we needed a new roof - she said yes and that's how we got going."

This set underway a year of fundraising. Donations were dropped into the Scout Hall letter box and various grants were received. A coffee morning and tombola were organised at the Community Use Building (CUB) as well as a Lions Big Easter Egg and a Charter Day tombola.

"Aaron and Lee were the roofers who did the new roof for us. They were absolutely brilliant and got it done really quickly.

"We want to say a BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who made this possible within a year from start to finish."

New swift box kits were also purchased because the nesting birds were no longer able to get into the roof. Miriam Thomas (the founder of Community Action Group) paid for the kits and, with the help of Stuart McFadzean and Steve Ryan, the kits were made up by the Scout Groups. They are now installed on the Scout building.

The 1st Honiton Scout Group are holding an Easter Fayre this weekend.
