Essential work is taking place on the A35 in Wilmington and the road remains closed.

A water leak in the early hours on Tuesday 5 April meant that urgent resurfacing work was needed. The depth of the resurfacing work that is required means the work is expected to take several hours.

As a result, the road is closed in both directions until Wednesday morning.

Essential repairs will take place overnight.

Motorists who are travelling between Honiton and Axminster are being diverted via the A358 to Ilminster, A303 to A30, and then back onto the A35.

The National Highways agency is warning travellers to expect delays to their journey and allow extra time.

Motorists should also check traffic conditions before they set off.

Further information about the closures is available from National Highways by visiting this website, and the Twitter account @HighwaysSWEST.

For urgent real-time assistance, you can call the 24/7 contact centre team on 0300 123 5000. They will be able to provide up-to-the minute information.
