Honiton: A beacon will be lit on Roundball Hill to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
On June 2 a special beacon will be lit to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and Honiton Town Council have released a schedule of the ceremony.
The ceremony will take place on Roundball Hill, which overlooks Honiton.
The United Kingdom has a long history of lighting beacons to mark special events such as royal weddings, Jubilees, and coronations.
In 1897 beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and they were lit again in 1977, 2002 and 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth's milestones.
This year, our Queen celebrates 70 years of reign as Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth. No previous monarch has celebrated a Platinum Jubilee.
To mark the event, more than 2,022 beacons will be lit across the UK and its Overseas Territories, as well as one in the capital city of each Commonwealth country.
