Honiton Carers have enjoyed a rather busy time lately starting off with a stall at Trips Volunteering4all Craft Fair.
The footfall was excellent and we really enjoyed a busy morning selling our bespoke crafts including Jubilee buntings hand-made and donated by our volunteer Sharron Smith. We enjoyed spreading awareness within the community about our unpaid-carers support group.
The following day we attended Honiton Bowling Club open day. We were treated to a lovely taster session which was great fun. Sue and her colleagues really looked after us well and took us through the paces for an hour and half. They even treated us all to a cuppa & chat, before we left for home. Some of the carers were immediately hooked and signed up for further coaching and a possible membership in the future. Some of us ached a bit the following day having found muscles we did not know we had.
A couple of days later on Wednesday 1st June, 36 carers went to Burrow Farm Gardens. We enjoyed the sunny afternoon walking around the stunning gardens and later a much needed cuppa with a piece of the wonderful cakes available to us. The staff were extremely welcoming, supportive and friendly and we highly recommend a visit.
The next day we met at the Beehive to watch the fabulous Happy Days Jubilee celebration show. It was full of both glamour & fun, and took us right through from the 40s to date. This is the second time we have seen one of the Happy Days shows and we will definitely be back for more. Very, very enjoyable indeed.
We were offered a stall at the Jubilee Market on Saturday 4th June and set up in Northcote Lane at 7.30am. The weather was not good in fact it was bitterly cold with a very high wind, but stuck it out to the end and ended up having a wonderful time with an excellent result.
Honiton Carers would like to thank the community for supporting us both at the Trip Volunteering4all Fair and at the Jubilee Market. We really appreciate all the community support we receive and would also like to thank our wonderful volunteers who have been available at every one of the above activities. You are all heroes and we could never do what we do without you all.
We have several more activities coming up. CARERS WEEK this year commences Monday 6th June with lots of activities laid on for unpaid carers both by Devon Carers & Carers UK (Please see their websites for further details).
Honiton Carers are meeting at The Methodist Church hall on Wednesday 8th June at 2pm for a training session of Moving & Handling with Coldwell Training Company. We are also really looking forward to being at Honiton Co-op store on Friday 10th June for a community awareness session.
Honiton Carers are very honoured to be one of Honiton Co-op's three chosen causes who each have an in store awareness session once a quarter. Please come and say hello to us, who knows you may find the very bargain you have been looking for. We are walking The Byes on Saturday 11th June and on Monday 13th June, we will be visiting Chard Carers Support Group with whom we have formed a close relationship. It is their summer party, so we are looking forward to a great buffet & some live music, perhaps even with a dance or two. If you are a carer and would like to join Honiton Carers, please get in touch with Win on [email protected] or phone 07974 636926
