Honiton Carers Support enjoyed a wonderful speaker at their last meeting on Wednesday 9 October, held at The Methodist Church.
Winnie Cameron welcomed and introduced Tomi Dalton, the Speaker of the day - the subject being: 'The design and production of fine Bone China.'
Tomi brought many samples of her delightful work which was displayed on custom made stands.
Her talk outlined her background and how she came to make Bone China.
She was fortunate on her return from Germany to get a job under the handicaps scheme with David Bowkett (David was previously The Royal Worcestershire top artist) as an apprentice doing modelling, painting and everything the job entailed.
Tomi has also been a co-ordinator for the Alzheimer's Society and worked with Hospiscare.
She was approached about making some miniatures and this is what she now specialises in. Most of the items on display were miniatures.
Tomi went on to explain the techniques involved. All of the miniatures were sculpted by herself, the casts made, the painting, glazing and firing etc - right up to the finished article.
These were sold at craft fairs which meant having to travel all round the Country.
Winnie thanked Tomi on behalf of everyone for the lovely presentation this afternoon. It was extremely interesting, informative and very funny too.
Light and enjoyable - the skill and handicraft is incredible. What a talented lady - one who is able to make these wonderful miniatures, to play a lead part as an actress and do all of her own DIY jobs in the house.
