The Honiton Carers had another fabulous day at Creative Beings.
Today we had the same theme in both the Pottering with Plants and the Art & Craft session, which was really great.
The theme was 'Culinary Herbs and Spices.'
Fiona our tutor divided us in to pairs where one was blind folded to raise our senses and had to feel, smell and crunch various herbs and spices to see if we could recognise what we were handling, and say what we could smell and what it reminded of us. The outcome from all of us was actually quite similar although there were also many different responses as to memories from a specific smell.
Our afternoon tutors were Katie Green & Sue Holland. Katie initially talked us through the most common herbs we not only use for cooking but also for medicinal purposes. She had a lot of plants we could touch and smell and she even had several different species of each herb like mint and sage.
Sue showed us how to make Herbal Balm and we got to make our own blend of herbal teas with a lot of different dried herbs and spices to choose from. Katie talked us through lots of different oils, showed us diffusers and little dishes for mixing and how to use them with a carrier oil for massaging. The room was full of the most gorgeous aroma. We finished off with massaging each others hands or our own depending on our personal preference.
It was a wonderful afternoon, much enjoyed by everyone.
Our next Art & Craft session at Creative Beings is on Wednesday 26th July when we will be making Clay Pinch Pots for seed keeping
Our next meeting is at The Kitchen at Combe Garden Centre on Wednesday 5th July 3.00 - 4.30pm
