Honiton Carers Support Group was represented at a big parade on the last day of the Devon County Show to mark National Thank You Day.

Sunday, July 4 was designated as a day to celebrate the people and organisations that have supported their communities throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

A group from the Devon County Show came up with the idea of the Great Devon Parade, which took place in the main ring, and was the first time the show's finale had ever taken place without animals.

Show Manager Sam Mackenzie-Green said: "We've witnessed community kindness in some shape or form during the pandemic, whether we've offered it ourselves or been the recipients.

"The parade was a fitting tribute."

Representatives of 32 organisations took part and were officially thanked for their work by the president of the show, David Fursdon, The Lord Lieutenant of Devon.

He said: "You have all been so important to the way in which we've dealt with things in this county."

Honiton Carers Support's message to the community

Valerie Lloyd and Winnie Cameron from Honiton Carers Support Group went to the show and joined the parade, to receive thanks for the extra support the carers had given to their community during the pandemic.

But Winnie said the carers were also grateful to those who had helped their work.

She said: "Honiton Carers would like to thank the community for supporting us throughout the year, the volunteers who work tirelessly and of course our friends and members for joining in with everything we do.

"Thank you also to Trip Community Transport for getting us there and back safely."
