Honiton Carer’s Winnie Cameron nominated for award and speaking on the radio this afternoon

By Kate Baxter 15th Aug 2022

Winnie Cameron is the organiser of Honiton Carers, and she has been nominated for a BBC 'Make a Difference' award.

The group supports unpaid carers through weekly face to face meetings and email and telephone calls. Winnie organises training, signposting, referrals to Devon Carers, day trips, social events and activities such as Arts and Crafts, walking and musical activities. Winnie has been running the group since 2014 and there are now over 80 carers in their books.

She has been nominated for the Caring in the Community category.

Winnie's interview will be on BBC Radio Devon at 15.20pm today (Monday 15 August). The interview will be then available to listen to on the BBC website.

Winnie spoke to Nub News about her nomination. She said: "I feel embarrassed, so many people do so much more than I do.

However, I am thrilled the carer who nominated me, and apparently most of the group, agree that I make a huge difference to their lives and they love our group.

"I am very happy the carer even thought about nominating me, it is always great to be appreciated."
