Honiton: Combe Farm wins Gold Taste of the West award for their goat sausages

By Kate Baxter 2nd Aug 2022

Combe Farm Shop has won a Gold award from Taste of the West for their sausages.

The Curried Goat Sausages were created by butcher Simon Skinner and his wife Sam, who both live in Honiton.

All the sausages are made on site by Simon and the goat is from a farm in Talaton.

Simon has been a butcher for more than 20 years and he is currently training their son Corey who is doing an apprentice in butchery. Sam's parents run K & M butchers in Ottery St. Mary which they have owned since 2003.

Sam told Nub News: "We were delighted to win! We keep having to come up with these unusual flavours as the customers love them. Last week we made cherry cola sausages and they quickly sold out! Everyone had them on their BBQ."

Simon added: "We always sell loads of goat when we have it in the shop, so I thought we needed to do something with the trim. We decided to try it curried as that is always a popular flavour.

"People have absolutely loved it. Everyone who has tried it has told me they were amazing. Most of the time unusual meats don't do so well in the Taste of the West competition, so we were thrilled!"

Your reporter for Honiton Nub News tried the sausages and can confirm that they really are delicious - the flavour is very delicate and they went down very well!

It isn't the first time Combe Farm has scooped an award from Taste of the West. Last year it won Gold for its Black Pudding, Bacon and Tomato Sausage and for their Guinness and Leak Sausage.

The Farm Shop is manged by Joanna Marker, whose family own the Combe Estate. The shop opened in 2020 and after just a year of trading it won Gold for South West Farm Shop.

The shop has a large meat counter as well as a bakery and fruit and vegetable section. There is also a café, fishmongers, and milk refill station on site.

You can find Combe Farm Shop and Café on Hayne Lane in Gittisham, EX14 3PD
