A special cake and a party at the Masonic Lodge marked the 66th birthday of Honiton councillor Tony McCollum – and his retirement from his day job.

Cllr McCollum had been working at the parcel delivery firm Caribou in Exeter, but decided to concentrate on his role as a Honiton town councillor and representative for the St Paul's ward on East Devon District Council. Prior to the Exeter job he had been Honiton Town Council's market manager and town development manager for 11 years.

He was joined by 35 guests at the party, which was also a fundraising event for the Mental Health Foundation. Cllr McCollum raised £400 for the cause - £140 through Facebook and £260 through a raffle at the party.

The cake, illustrating aspects of his life, was made by Cathy's Bakehouse, and music from the 50s, 60s and 70s was provided by Black Velvet of Honiton. Guests at the party nicknamed Cllr McCollum 'Mr Honiton' and thanked him for his work for the town.

Cllr McCollum said he would like to thank all those who donated to the charity and attended his party. He also expressed gratitude to Chris Hallet and his wife for running the bar, and the Masonic Lodge for the use of the hall.
