Honiton councillor Jake Bonetta's distinctive quiff will soon be looking very different, as he embarks on a multicoloured hair dyeing project to raise money for charity.
Jake, who represents the St Michael's ward on East Devon District Council, plans to 'absolutely wreck' his carefully tended hair in aid of the Young Minds Trust, a UK-wide youth mental health charity which has supported many young people in Honiton.
He's started a crowdfunding page on JustGiving with a fundraising target of £1,000. Once the fundraising period has finished, he'll allow his friends to choose an array of different colours for dyeing his hair and beard.
For every £100 raised, he'll go about his everyday life with the chosen hair colour for up to a month, attending lectures, work and town and district council meetings. At the end of the exercise he'll shave all his hair off.
Cllr Bonetta said: "I am proud to be doing this in support of Young Minds, a UK-wide charity dealing with mental health problems and crises in young people.
"Young Minds is always there if and when young people, their parents or other relatives and friends need support or advice.
"They massively supported many young people across Honiton - including many of my closest friends and I - following a very difficult young suicide in 2017.
"It is so important to me that I give back, and that's what I'm doing today."
