Honiton fire crew tasked to man trapped under eighty-foot tree in Ottery St Mary

Firefighters from Honiton were called earlier this evening (July 6) to assist with the rescue of a man who had become trapped underneath an eighty-foot tree on Holcombe Lane in Ottery St Mary.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call from Ambulance requesting fire assistance with a medical call.
"Ambulance reported one male trapped underneath an eighty-foot tree and unable to self rescue.
"Fire control immediately mobilised one fire appliance from Ottery, two fire appliances from Honiton and the Heavy Rescue Vehicle from Middlemoor to assist at this incident.
"On arrival the incident commander confirmed one male was trapped underneath a tree.
"Firefighters and members of the public released the male. The incident commander confirmed no further appliances where required at the incident.
"Firefighters administered first aid until the ambulance arrived on scene. The firefighters assisted the ambulance crew with carrying the male from the woods to the ambulance.
"Duty of care was left with ambulance paramedics."
