Honiton firefighters help put out fire near swimming pool in Berrynarbor

Honiton firefighters helped put out a fire believed to have started in the swimming pool area of a property in Berrynarbor near Ilfracombe on Saturday 30 October.

Just after 5.45pm, Fire Control received reports of a fire and mobilised local fire engines. Further appliances were then requested, and in total eight engines attended the incident.

The cause is still under investigation.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: "Following reports of a fire believed to have started in the swimming pool area, Control mobilised local fire engines.

"Upon arrival confirmed flames were issuing, requesting further appliances to attend.

"At the height of the incident a total of eight fire engines along with a water bowser and aerial ladder platform were in attendance.

"In use throughout the duration of the incident were: A light portable pump, two breathing apparatus, main jets, a thermal image camera, and the on-site pool was also used as a water supply.

"Final details are that there was 100% fire damage to the pool and sauna area, along with 50% smoke damage to the toilets and changing rooms. The cause is still under investigation."
