Honiton Fiver Fest goes down a treat with local shoppers

By Philippa Davies 17th Sep 2021

Honiton's two-week Fiver Fest has been hailed a success, with around 40 local businesses taking part by offering products or services for the bargain price of £5.

The initiative brought many more shoppers into town between Saturday, June 12 and Saturday 26, putting money into the tills of Honiton's independent traders.

The range of special offers available was impressive. Just to give a few examples, shoppers could pick up practical products such as furniture cleaning kits (Bests Beds) and packets of seeds (RKL Tools), stock up on food (Combe Farm Shop and Complete Meats), treat themselves to a manicure (Pearl's Nails) or a beard trim (Alan Rowe Barbering), buy accessories such as sunglasses (Run Venture) a new make-up bag (Greenhalls Sewing and Embroidery) or a personalised mug (Photo Box) – and then enjoy a cream tea (Lacemakers Café) or cocktails (Honiton Wine Bar).

One of the organisers, Kate Dixon from Honiton Photo Box, said: "I was really proud of how well Fiver Fest did last year - our first year - and I'm twice as proud this year.

"So many more businesses took part, and with this now being an annual event, many more people came into the town to shop specifically for the amazing £5 offers.

"It's a time where small businesses are worried about their future, but with events like Fiver Fest and more and more people making the conscious decision to shop locally, we can rest a little easier knowing that the whole community is banding together to support our Honiton High Street."

Helen Newman from Honiton Sports said: "It was brilliant. It's really nice that it brings all the businesses together and they are all on board to take part, it definitely encourages footfall, it gets people into your shop, sometimes they only buy the offer but then they see other things and they're aware of you then."

The other organisers were Jake Bonetta (Honiton Town Council), Jason Hannay (Cool Heat South West), Fiona Hanratty (Lacemakers Café, Town Council), Liz Pole (Business and Community Columnist) and Bev Stamp (Natural Beauty By Bev).
