Gymnastics sessions have now been running again for two weeks at Honiton Gymnastics Club, and the club's gymnasts are so thrilled to be back that they have released an "It's great to be back at gymnastics" video.

You can see the video on the club's Facebook page here.

"We'd like to thank our existing members for returning to gymnastics and also welcome our new members into the Honiton Gymnastics Club family," said James Reddy, director and coach at the club. "It's great to be back again after such a long break. We are excited to get our competition squads motivated and back together again and keen to ensure our recreational groups are having fun while keeping fit and doing the activity that they love."

Honiton Gymnastics Club would like to thank Emily Lee Photoimagery for her videography skills and Jacob Reddy Music for providing permission to use his latest single, Outside the Box, to accompany the video.

Honiton gymnasts are currently focusing on basic preparation and simple moves, before gradually developing more complex skills over the coming months.

"Our gymnasts have trained for just four months out of the past 14 months," added James, "and despite our coaches putting on Zoom sessions throughout the lockdowns, full gymnastics sessions are much longer and more taxing on their bodies. Breaking them back in gently is very important before they start to develop skills."

Honiton Gymnastics Club hopes to put together another video in a month-or-so, which will demonstrate the developments that gymnasts in the club have made in their first few weeks back at training.

Covid measures still in place

While the club is excited to be back, it is still firmly focused on being Covid-secure, so in addition to a reduced number of participants in the gymnastics centre at one time, the club has maintained its new safety measures, which include:

* 'Gym-Buddies' groups

* Zoned areas on each floor

* A regulated one-way system

* Regular hand sanitising

* Vinyl floor coverings for quick and effective antiviral cleaning

* Temperature checks on the door

* Constant touch-point cleaning

…and many more procedures, all of which are detailed in the extensive Covid-19 risk assessment on the Honiton Gymnastics Club website.

New Rec 5+ session on Saturday, 3.30pm to 4.30pm

In addition, to satisfy the increased demand for classes, a new pay-monthly Rec 5+ session is also being introduced on Saturdays from 3.30pm-4.30pm. Anyone who is interested in this class for their child should email [email protected] for more information.
