Honiton Town Council has been thanked for helping to pay for 'key technological equipment' for Hospiscare's King's House earlier this year.

The equipment enabled the charity's Honiton-based community nurses to continue providing care and support to patients and their families, while observing Covid guidelines .

The items included webcams for patient consultations and staff advice, telephone headsets, keyboards that could be cleaned with anti-bacterial wipes, and conference phones for virtual meetings.

Hospiscare has emailed the town council thanking them for their support, and giving details of how the donation was used. The charity explains that at the start of the pandemic and the Covid restrictions, the nurses initially adapted their existing equipment, but it became clear that there was a need to invest in new technology.

Equipment will help 'long into the future'

Louise Beeken, Hospiscare's Head of Philanthropy, told Honiton Nub News: "The donation from Honiton Town Council contributed to purchasing key technological equipment that will aid our community nurses in delivering specialist care long into the future.

"Hospiscare is a charity funded by local people and organisations in the local community, so we so very grateful to the council for helping us with the purchase of this important kit."

Hospiscare's Chief Nurse, Ann Rhys, added: "Thanks to the new technology, our nurses have been able to maintain regular appointments with patients and their families throughout the pandemic.

"This has meant that patients with high-risk diagnoses or mobility difficulties have still been able to access quality face-to-face support through video, our staff and patients are protected from the risk of infection and the amount of time our community nurses can spend with patients has increased."
