Honiton: Lacemakers Café is back on the market

Lacemakers Cafe on Honiton high street is still for sale after a planned purchase fell through.

Fiona Hanratty and her father Ray have owned and run the Lacemakers Café for a decade, but they are selling up and looking for new challenges.

The Lacemakers Café is one of the oldest cafés in Honiton. It is located in a Grade 2 Listed Building which has special heritage status because of its bow windows. The café has been decorated by local artists and it even features a hand painted mural in the garden, by local artist Samantha Francesca.

Ms. Hanratty went to university and then returned to Honiton to help run the family business. In 2019 she took over the running of the café, but she and Mr Hanratty are now looking to move on to other things.

During the pandemic, Lacemakers Café set up an online shop and, together with TRIP, they organised deliveries of meals and groceries to vulnerable people living in Honiton. Ms. Hanratty told Nub News: "This was really interesting! We created different menus and totally changed our business model, and it was a huge success!

"We used the time during the lockdowns to renovate the whole café and the garden. It's a lot prettier and brighter than it used to be! Local artists have helped us and the whole community have helped the café get back on its feet after the pandemic.

"It's time to move on now, sadly. We had a sale that was about to go through about a month ago, however it fell through.

"The building has been used as a café for decades, so I would love it to remain like that. It's got a lovely traditional feel to it. We've got links to local organisations and to the Allhallows Museum, so I hope all that history and community is maintained."

The café has prime position on the high street and it sits approximately 40 customers. There is an attractive front room looking over the high street, a cosy room behind it which has sofas and finally there is a terraced garden. There is also a professional kitchen and customer toilets.

More information on the sale Lacemakers Café is available here.

The Lacemakers Café is located at 46 High Street.
