A local mum has organised a Clothes Swap and Social Event to get mums together and help save families money.

"It will help people save money, allows people to create new social connections or spend time with friends, and finally anyone attending will be helping the planet!"

Cheryl Ferguson, 35, is from Scotland, and she moved to Devon five years ago. She now lives in Feniton with her husband and daughter, Luella, who is seven months old. Cheryl used to be a professional dancer, but she is currently on maternity leave from Exeter University where she works in the Finance Department.

Saturday's event will offer parents and carers an opportunity to bring along their baby clothes for children from newborn to three years old. They can then swap them for other clothes which will fit their children. As well as this, Cheryl wants mums, dads and carers to come along for the social side too.

Cheryl told Nub News why she decided to organise the event: "Firstly, it has been a difficult couple of years for everyone due to Covid. I believe for parents/caregivers having social connection is really important.

"Secondly, since having my little girl, I find myself with bags of clothing barely worn due to her growing out of things so quickly, which would leave me having to buy something new nearly every month. Not only is this extremely costly, it is also very wasteful.

"The cost of living is such a worry for people at the minute. That takes me to the third and final point, doing my part for the planet and stopping 'fast-fashion' mentality."

There will free coffee, tea and biscuits as well as a raffle.

How can I get involved?

If you would like to donate you can contact Cheryl on [email protected]. Once you've made a donation of clothes, you can take home five free items.

The Baby Clothes Swap is taking place at Honiton Methodist Church on Saturday 30 April, 10.30am – 12.30pm.

£5 entry includes drink, raffle, and the chance to take home five items of clothing.
