Vicki Green (aged 39) and her elder sister Elly (aged 42) are taking part in a charity challenge at Honiton Rugby Club where they will be walking over hot coals to raise money for a local charity.

Vicki and her family have lived in and around Honiton all their lives: Vicki currently lives in Awliscombe and Elly lives in Chard.

Money is being raised in aid of See the Future, a Honiton based charity which donates to eye care units which do not receive any government funding and research organisations which aim to prevent blindness and pioneer new treatments.

Vicki and Elly were inspired to raise the money because they lost their father Andrew to cancer of the appendix in February 2021.

Andrew Pearce lived in Colyton. He was well known in the area as his father John Pearce was headmaster of Stockland Primary School for many years.

Andrew was a familiar face in Honiton because he used to run the Lyme Bay Mobility van in the market.

Vickie, who is a mum of six, told Nub News: "He was an amazing man and my best friend!

"Our family realised that life is short, it's for living, making memories, and helping others where you can.

"We want to make our Dad proud of what we choose to do in life. And we want to make memories together whilst doing good.

"That may sound a little silly, but for every memory we make together and with our families we are living life, we are doing what Dad would have wanted which is not to sit and cry, give up and become depressed, even though we'd quite like to curl up in a ball and not move."

Vicki and Elly would like to raise at least £150 and the event is taking place on February 18.
