The launch of Honiton Mental Health Friendly Town Charter is the latest casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, scheduled to take place on Monday (23 Mar) evening at Honiton Community College, has been postponed.

Steve Craddock, chair of Honiton Health Matters, said: "We are disappointed not to have the public launch and celebrate all the hard work of young people and the community who have helped to shape the project.

"However, we are continuing with the work, just doing it differently, and we will continue to support organisations and businesses who want to sign up to the charter."

Honiton Mental Health Friendly Town is an exciting community-led initiative to help young people and their families affected by mental health to feel better understood and supported.

The project has been developed by Honiton Health Matters and Action East Devon's Headlight team, with support from a steering group of local organisations and input from young people from schools and youth groups.

Steering group members include Honiton Community College, Honiton Parent Hub, Honiton Surgery, LED Leisure, Open Arms, Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton Youth Club, East Devon District Council.

Ben Feasey, Action East Devon Headlight manager, said: "We realise that mental health and wellbeing for young people and families is important during these uncertain times when face-to-face services are being restricted.

"In order to support young people the team involved in the Mental Health Friendly Town project has developed a Resources Guide that lists a range of support services accessible online and via app, text and telephone.

"This is being uploaded onto the Honiton Health Matters website, www.honitonhealthmatters.org.uk.

"We also encourage people to stay connected with friends and family and we look forward to a larger public launch later in the year."
