Organisations and charities in Honiton are looking for more volunteers to help run their programmes and support their users.

A Volunteer Fayre is taking place this weekend to try and recruit volunteers. The event has been organised by Volunteer 4 All and Honiton Health Matters.

The event will allow potential volunteers to meet with individuals from Honiton's community groups and discuss opportunities, responsibilities, hours and so on.

14 organisations will be at the event on Saturday. The groups will include Open Arms, Honiton Litter Pickers, TRIP, The Beehive, Honiton Methodist Church and Citizens Advice East Devon.

There are many volunteer roles which are available, from just a few hours a month to several hours a week, and there are opportunities to suit any interest.

For example, TRIP is looking for drivers and befrienders whilst Honiton Community Action Group (CAG) need people to help with conservation in and around Honiton as well as individuals to help at the Repair Café. The Beehive is looking for technical support during its live music shows, lighting technicians for shows and people to help in the café.

Caroline Retter is the Community Engagement Facilitator to Volunteer 4 All, which is part of TRIP.

She told Nub News: "Many community organisations in Honiton rely on volunteers to operate, without those volunteers donating their time the services they provide could be scaled back significantly or even lost entirely.

"This would have a hugely negative impact on community members who use these services, leading to increased levels of loneliness and social isolation.

"Many people think they do not have any attributes or skills to offer in a volunteer capacity, but everyone can offer something, each and every one of us has something of value that they can offer in a volunteer role.

"Volunteers are the hidden heroes of our local communities and should be celebrated for their selflessness, kindness and generosity."
