Honiton: Mum of three organises clothes swap to raise money for Ukraine
A woman from Honiton has organised a clothes swap in aid of the Ukraine Red Cross Appeal.
Lauren Passmore-Smart is 36 years old and she and lives on Chestnut Way with her three children and her husband Jay.
Lauren is currently studying children's mental health, whilst she looks after her 2-year-old son, Bobby. Her elder children, Josh and Mickey, both attend Honiton Community College.
Despite being a busy mum, Lauren has found the time to organise a clothes swap, which will take place on Saturday 26 March.
Between 8am and 10am, people are invited to pop into the Honiton Community College and drop off donated clothes. Then, between 1pm and 5pm, people can come and choose some new clothes from the donations.
People can also donate money for any clothing they wish to take instead of swapping and there will be tea, coffee and cake available.
Lauren told Nub News: "On Saturday we are hoping to have a fun day and raise lots of money for The Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal and, if it is successful, we hope to run future clothes swap events potentially raising funds for community projects.
"The idea came about one night whilst I was lying awake thinking about what I could do to help the people in Ukraine.
"I had donated to the Ukraine collections, but I knew they were overwhelmed with clothes and I thought that we have lots of people who have gathered clothes up to send so maybe we could do something with them.
"Being conscious of the environmental impact that clothing has, a clothes swap is a way of helping to reduce clothing waste and giving people a chance to refresh their wardrobes!"
The Ukraine Appeal Swap Shop is on Saturday 26 March.
You can drop clothes off to the Honiton Community College (Drama Hall) between 8am – 10am, and from 1pm – 5pm clothes will be available for swapping or purchasing.
