Honiton nursing home appeals for help buying interactive table to entertain residents
A fundraising appeal's been launched by Honiton Manor Nursing Home to help buy an interactive table to provide activities and entertainment for residents.
The table looks like an iPad on a very large scale. Residents can use it to speak to their families via FaceTime, play interactive games such as air hockey, and enjoy puzzles and colouring. They can also use sensory apps, watch films, sing karaoke and use Google Maps to look around the world and see places they loved from their past.
It's also portable, so it can be moved from room to room and used by all residents, including those who are bedbound.
Staff have set a target of £5,000 to buy the table, and set up a GoFundMe page. They've already held fundraising events and activities themselves including a summer fete and a cake sale, raising more than £1,000 so far. There are several further events in the pipeline including a Christmas Fayre and a craft event.
But the nursing home's activity co-ordinator Sian Samways said: "We still have a way to go before we can purchase the table, and have struggled with social media alone to be able to spread the word.
"We are a small local nursing home and feel our residents would benefit hugely from having one of these tables to help stimulate them on a day-to-day basis."
Anyone wanting to help the Honiton Manor Nursing Home appeal can visit the GoFundMe page to make a donation.
