A group of Honiton volunteers are collecting items to send to the border to Ukraine, and they need your donations!

Last week, the Russian army illegally invaded the sovereign country of Ukraine. There are reports that 2,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed so far, with 700,000 people having fled the country.

Communities, organisations and individuals across the UK are coming together to try to help the people of Ukraine.

Honiton's Smileys Café is currently offering food and drinks to all Ukrainian drivers.

The group will be accepting donations on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 of March at the Honiton Family Church.

Provisions for displaced Ukrainians are desperately needed and so any contributions are welcomed.

You can donate second-hand items (as long as they are in good condition) or new items, including blankets, sleeping bags, clothes, shoes, children's toys, food, cutlery, plates, nappies and candles.

Volunteer Anna Proszowska, who is from Poland, told Nub News: "A group friends have got together with the amazing people in this town, with the kindness of Honiton Family Church, who are just superb.

"With this help, magic can happen! I'd like to say thank you to everyone who is involved this collection, and to Ukraine: stay strong, we are all behind you!

"Donations from the church will be sorted packed to go to a Polish Shop called 'Maja' in Exeter and they have drivers who will take the stuff to the Ukrainian border, so we all work together for Ukraine."

The collections will take place at the Honiton Family Church on Sunday 6 March from 12pm – 2pm and on Monday 7 from 12pm – 3pm.
