A Honiton gym is helping to raise money for the emergency relief fund in response to the earthquake on the border of Turkey and Syria.

B! Health & Fitness are donating £10 to the cause for every new member who signs up to the gym from today (February 14) until March 14.

The death toll for last week's large earthquake is now above 37,000 people. Aid was slow to reach the stricken towns and cities and many people are believed to remain trapped but alive under the rubble.

Duncan Bryant of B! Health & Fitness told Nub News: "As we are all aware a series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey and north-west Syria killing at least 37,000 people and injuring many more.

"People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions. Access to clean water will likely be a challenge, bringing the risk of cholera and other diseases.

"Disaster Emergency Committee charities and their local partners have been among the first responders, working with locally-led relief efforts to ensure people have food and clean water.

"We at B! Health & Fitness have been incredibly moved and would very much like to support their efforts, so between February 14th to March 14th 2023 we will be donating and extra £10 for every new member that joins one of our clubs.

"People need help now. If you are reading this, please donate whatever you can."
