Honiton raises the Red Ensign Flag in honour of Merchant Navy Day
At 11am today (September 3) at the Beehive in Honiton, the Red Ensign Flag was raised for Merchant Navy Day.
A small service of remembrance was also held to honour the brave men and women who have, and continue to sail the seas to serve this country.
A message from HRH The Earl of Wessex on the 'Fly the Red Ensign' campaign, read:
"On this Merchant Navy Day, I very much hope that you will support this campaign by Seafarers UK to remember the sacrifices, salute the courage and support the future of the often unsung personnel of the Merchant Navy.
"Too often they the forgotten or invisible service, by raising the Red Ensign you will ensure that at least on this day they are remembered.
"Your act will mean so much to their families and the retired, but most especially to those at sea."
