Honiton resident Miriam Thomas has started a Community Action Group, and part of that is the founding of a Repair Café, which will launch on Saturday 29 January at St. Rita's Centre.
A repair café is somewhere you can take items that need fixing, for example a watch, bike, toy or piece
of furniture, and volunteers fix it for you. The idea is that by repairing it rather than replacing it with a new item, waste is reduced. Volunteers are needed to help run the café, which will hopefully run once a month on a Saturday morning. Miriam is looking for volunteer repairers, including electricians, sewers, clock and watch fixers and anyone who can work with furniture. Individuals to greet people as they arrive and to complete administrative tasks are also needed. Anyone who would like to supply cakes or biscuits is invited to contact Miriam. Miriam told Nub News: "If you are in any related business I would like to link up with you. "A repair café does not take business away from locals but by working together we can give you business by buying parts and using your skills in return for promotion for you." There are still tickets available for Saturday 29 at St Rita's centre for the launch meeting, which is taking place between 6.00pm - 8.00pm. If you would like to attend, please apply by 9.00pm on Wednesday. You can contact Miriam on [email protected]
