Honiton Surgery is one of three local GP practices rolling out a new initiative to address growing demands on mental health services in the area.

The Primary Care Network, also incorporating Sid Valley Practice in Sidmouth and Coleridge Medical Centre in Ottery St Mary, is launching a brand-new set of services through a Primary Care Mental Health Team.

The approach is a complete overhaul of existing methods, taking into account the individual as a whole and how aspects of lifestyle can impact emotional wellbeing.

As well as an Instagram account they also have a podcast on Spotify.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach at Honiton Surgery, Abby Dawson said: "The team is offering an holistic approach using goal setting, coaching and care coordination to help individuals feel in control of their own health and wellbeing.

"The service will explore individuals' mental health, general health, wellbeing, lifestyle factors and any barriers that may be preventing them from moving forward in their health and wellbeing journey."

The service has been developed in collaboration with secondary care mental health services, community groups and advice and information services.

"With the support of a coach, individuals undertake six sessions of 45 minutes," Abby explained.

"The team have also launched a Walking into Wellbeing group where patients are welcome to explore beautiful natural surroundings through accessible walks near-by with like-minded individuals.

"The aim is to empower and educate the community on how look maintain positive mental health and look after our mental health and emotional wellbeing on a day-to-day basis.

We have launched a social media account and podcast to help with this."

The team are currently taking referrals for the service through clinicians at Honiton Surgery.
