Honiton Town Council has distributed £33,000 in grants to 16 local charities and community groups.

It comes as a draft resolution, put together by the finance and policy committee, was passed with a majority vote at a recent meeting.

Five of the 16 grants were awarded as follows:

£2,000 to Honiton Millennium Green

£4,500 to the 1064 Squadron (Honiton) Air Cadets to upgrade ageing IT equipment

£2,112 to Parental Minds CIC to help facilitate and offer learning and training opportunities

£1,500 to Honiton Carers Support towards trips

£5,000 to TRIP Community Transport following a casting vote from the Honiton Mayor Cllr John Zarczynski.

Chair of the Finance and Policy Committee Cllr Theresa Howard said: "Through the hard work of the finance and policy committee, we have tried to encapsulate and support as many groups as possible whilst remaining fiscally aware of the limits of our current grants budget and policies.

"I hope that these grants offer real support, to help our community thrive through these difficult times."

Town and District Councillor and Chair of Honiton Foodsave Jake Bonetta said: "We are grateful to the generosity of the Town Council in supporting such a width and breadth of our community through these grants.

"Our grant of £1,000 will go directly to those most in need across the town, by providing extra funding to support and expand our important food partnership with FareShare South West, and allowing us to continue to reduce food poverty and food waste concurrently."

The draft grants policy and budget for next year will be discussed in the full council meeting on 10 January 2022.
