Honiton Town Council seek new councillors after resignations last week

Honiton Town Council have this afternoon (January 21) said that they have vacancies for a number of town councillors, following the resignation of several members last week.

Councillor Serena Sexton was unanimously voted temporary chairman, and Councillor Helen Hurford was elected vice-chairman at a meeting on Monday 17 January.

A Notice of Election will be released shortly, which will contain details of how interested parties can obtain nomination papers and apply to be a candidate.

According to the Town Council, "The existing Members are committed to providing a positive and collaborative approach to holding office in public life, where staff and councillors can work within a vibrant culture that promotes diversity, equality and respect for one another.

"All Members of the Council are independent, and we want them to feel free to express their opinions in a safe and supportive environment, where differences are valued and given equal consideration."

Applications are welcomed whose skills and experience will help improve the development of a strategic vision to transform Honiton and make it an attractive option for visitors and people living and working here.

Honiton Town Council have set out an ambitious work project which includes revitalisation of the High Street, improvements to the regular market, increasing tourism, supporting various welfare and community groups, increasing facilities for young people, working with the police to tackle criminal activity and improving sports facilities.

After a challenging period and the ambitious work programme, councillors are sought who will participate in the various working groups and committees to help make progress. Individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to Honiton through their volunteering commitments are also strongly invited to apply.
