Honiton woman creating a Community Group to 'Take Action for Nature'
Honiton based Miriam Thomas would like to create a Community Action Group for the town, and she is looking for members.
Her ideas include planting trees, developing wildlife gardens, forming a food group, creating a Honiton repair café and helping residents in need.
Asked why she would like to create the group, she said: "I believe there is great potential among Honiton people to take up the environmental challenges now facing us.
"The biodiversity of Devon has seen huge changes and many species that have not already become extinct will become extinct unless we act now."
Miriam has a long history of volunteering and giving back to the community.
She has volunteered with Unite Cares of Tiverton; The Devon Wildlife Trust and she remains an active member of Honiton Carers. She is also a Carer Ambassador for Devon Carers.
"I have been thinking I still have something to offer and I wish to enthuse, inspire, educate and pass on skills that I have enjoyed learning about."
Her love of wildlife and nature was instilled in her by the father and grandfather, and she is passionate on issues such as creating habitats for wildlife and birds in our gardens, reducing food waste and reducing Honiton's carbon footprint.
Miriam adds: "There are many avenues a community like Honiton can come together and make Honiton a vibrant, wildlife haven in 30 or 50 years' time."
